We were finally hovering over the planet and I was psyched and simultaneously a bit lamenting. However my day was gloomy because in the last two weeks ago Alicia had not said more than was needed. Any attempt at trying to patch things up ended in some excuses to run away. Jerry was more forgiving, well he had a little animosity towards Alicia.
The ship broke through the atmosphere and descended into a vacant valley. Usually on Cradle Worlds, in the woods or forests, people would live there to get away from it all.
It seemed that concept was not shared here, as there was only one building here, a military outpost. The frigate was not capable of landing there, but the float system would keep it in the air. I hopped on a shuttle craft and began riding downwards.
“Anyone want to tell me why this world is called the planet of colors?” I asked.
“It’s because people come here in all shapes and colors, sir. I think you should go to see for yourself,” one of the flyers said, with a grin.
The dropship brought me and my soldiers down at a coliseum. We were supposed to train them at a Fortress World but the transport vessels were not ready to depart yet. When I dropped down I met five different people standing at the bay doors. They all had their helmets on at first so I could not see their faces.
“Why are these people standing in front of me?” I whispered to Alicia.
“I don’t know,” she said. Alicia regardless of what happened was still handling my paperwork. If she did not know, this was a surprise to even the officials. I strolled forward, in my silver and gold armor. It was fitted for a Paladin.
“Who are you?” I asked. The one in the middle removed their helmet and I finally knew why they called this planet: The Planet of Color. The skin on the female that stood before me was green like grass! The other four that stood behind her had different skin colors too. One was red, one was blue, another was purple and one was grey.
“What is this?” Jerry asked. “Do you people on this world paint yourself your favorite skin color or something?” I glanced at Alicia and she was just as surprised.
“It is funny,” the green one in the middle said. “When humans see a slight superficial difference they began to question them as if they were some monsters,” she said. Jerry was about to say something but I stopped him and stared at her. Clearly someone had an attitude.
“This is unorthodox,” I said. She snarled her nose.
“What is it, Paladin Blu? Are we outcasts too inhuman to join the famed Steel Marines? Ironic coming from somebody named after a color.” I began to look around and everyone in the stands all had the different colors skins. There were several hundred with my complexion but they were the minority.
“I’ve heard the stories but I never believed them,” Alicia said.
